Video Surveillance

Commercial Video Surveillance Systems in Edmonton

Plan, record and review activity around your property with a video surveillance system designed for the areas, operations and risks that matter to your organization. Uniservices provides consulting, design, installation, modernization and service for businesses, industrial facilities, condominium corporations, apartment-building owners and property managers in Edmonton and across Alberta.

Video coverage designed around the property

A useful camera system begins with clear objectives. Different properties may need to observe entrances, service areas, parkades, common areas, loading zones or other locations connected to daily operations. Camera placement, image detail, lighting, recording, storage and viewing requirements should be considered together rather than treating each camera as a separate purchase.

Depending on the approved design and selected equipment, a video surveillance system may include:

  • fixed cameras for defined views;
  • cameras selected for indoor or outdoor conditions;
  • recording and storage sized around the approved requirements;
  • local viewing and incident review;
  • remote viewing where supported and securely configured within the project scope;
  • supporting network, power and cabling infrastructure;
  • coordination with access control, intercom and intrusion-detection systems where compatible.

Image quality and coverage depend on the camera position, field of view, lighting, scene conditions, recording settings and selected equipment.

Video surveillance services

Consulting and design

Uniservices reviews the property, priority areas, operating requirements and existing infrastructure before defining the system scope. The design considers camera purpose and placement, image requirements, recording, storage, viewing, network capacity, power and supporting cabling.

For a separately scoped assessment, project requirements or system design, see our Consulting & Design service.

Installation and system additions

New systems and additions are installed around the approved design and site conditions. Work may include cameras, recorders, storage, network equipment, power, mounting, supporting cabling and the viewing functions included in the project.

Each proposed view is evaluated for its intended purpose. No camera can guarantee that every event, face, licence plate or other detail will be captured in every condition.

Modernization and phased upgrades

An existing camera system may have useful infrastructure alongside equipment that is aging, limited or no longer suitable for the property’s requirements. Uniservices can assess the current system, identify practical reuse opportunities and develop a replacement or phased-upgrade approach.

For projects centred on an aging or end-of-life system, see System Modernization.

Service and maintenance

Uniservices provides video surveillance troubleshooting, repair and scheduled maintenance. Service may also be available for systems installed by another company, subject to an initial assessment of system condition, compatibility, administrative access and parts or software availability.

Recurring maintenance agreements can be scoped around the property and installed system. Agreement terms, included work and scheduling are defined for each client; no emergency or guaranteed response-time commitment is implied.

Recording, storage and viewing

The recording system should be planned together with the cameras. The amount of video retained depends on factors such as the number of cameras, resolution, frame rate, recording method, storage capacity and system settings.

The approved project scope may address:

  • continuous, scheduled or event-based recording where supported;
  • storage sized around the agreed recording requirements;
  • local viewing and recorded-video search;
  • export of relevant video when supported by the selected platform;
  • remote viewing for authorized users where included;
  • user access and administrative controls available within the selected system;
  • network and internet requirements that affect viewing and system operation.

Retention duration and image detail must be confirmed for the actual system design. They are not assumed from a generic camera count.

Commercial and building-level applications

Uniservices works on commercial and building-level video surveillance projects for businesses, industrial properties, condominium corporations, apartment-building owners and property managers.

Typical applications may include:

  • commercial entrances and public-facing areas;
  • warehouses, yards and loading areas;
  • condominium and apartment-building common areas;
  • parkades and vehicle-access areas;
  • service corridors, utility areas and other operational spaces;
  • additions to an existing camera system.

Camera placement must respect the approved project purpose and applicable privacy obligations. Uniservices does not provide camera systems for individual homes.

Existing systems and contractor takeovers

Uniservices can assess a video surveillance system installed by another contractor. The first step is to determine its condition, available documentation, administrative access, compatibility and the availability of required parts or software.

After the assessment, Uniservices can explain:

  • which existing cameras or other components may remain in service;
  • which items require repair or replacement;
  • whether the recording and storage configuration remains suitable;
  • whether the system can be expanded;
  • whether a phased upgrade is practical;
  • what information or access is required before work can proceed.

Assessment does not guarantee that every existing product can be supported or integrated. The recommended next step depends on the system found on site.

Video surveillance often works alongside other building-security systems. Where the equipment and project scope support it, Uniservices can coordinate video surveillance with:

Each system remains separately scoped. Integration is included only after compatibility and project requirements are confirmed.

Our project approach

  1. Understand the property

    We review the property, priority areas, operating requirements, existing concerns and project goals.

  2. Assess viewing conditions

    We consider the intended view, distance, lighting, mounting location and existing infrastructure that may affect each part of the design.

  3. Define the scope

    We identify the proposed equipment, recording and viewing requirements, supporting work, known limitations and an appropriate implementation or upgrade path.

  4. Install, configure and verify

    Approved work is installed and configured, and the included camera views and system functions are checked against the project scope.

  5. Support the installed system

    After completion, Uniservices can provide on-request service or a separately scoped recurring maintenance agreement.

Frequently asked questions

Do you install camera systems for homes?

No. Uniservices focuses on commercial and building-level systems for businesses, industrial properties, condominium corporations, apartment-building owners and property managers. We do not provide camera systems for individual homes.

Can you service a system installed by another company?

Yes, subject to an initial assessment. Service depends on the system’s condition, compatibility, administrative access and the availability of required parts or software.

How long will the system retain recorded video?

Retention depends on the number of cameras, resolution, frame rate, recording method, storage capacity and system settings. The expected retention period is calculated for the proposed system rather than assumed from the camera count alone.

Can I view the cameras remotely?

Remote viewing may be available when supported by the selected system and included in the approved scope. User access, network requirements and configuration are reviewed as part of the project.

Can existing cameras or cabling be reused?

Sometimes. Existing equipment and infrastructure are assessed before reuse is recommended. Components are retained only when their condition, compatibility and role in the proposed system make reuse practical.

Can video surveillance work with access control or an intercom system?

It may be possible when the systems are compatible and the integration has a clear operational purpose. Compatibility and scope are confirmed before integration is proposed.

Do you offer ongoing maintenance agreements?

Yes. Uniservices can provide recurring maintenance agreements as well as on-request service. The agreement scope and scheduling are defined for the property and installed system.
