Access Control

Commercial Access Control Systems in Edmonton

Control access to doors, gates and restricted areas with a system designed around your property, users and day-to-day operations. Uniservices provides access control consulting, design, installation, modernization and service for businesses, industrial facilities, condominium corporations, apartment-building owners and property managers in Edmonton and across Alberta.

Manage access without relying on mechanical keys

Access control gives authorized people the appropriate access at the appropriate times while making credentials and permission changes easier to manage. A properly planned system brings together the controlled openings, door hardware, readers, controllers, credentials, software and supporting cabling required for the property.

Depending on the selected system and project scope, access control may support:

  • controlled entry at exterior and interior doors;
  • vehicle gates and other restricted openings;
  • cards and key fobs assigned to individual users;
  • permissions based on doors, user groups and schedules;
  • credential changes without rekeying the entire property;
  • system event history where supported by the selected platform;
  • coordination with intercom, video surveillance and intrusion-detection systems where compatible.

The system design depends on how the property operates, who requires access and what infrastructure is already in place.

Access control services

Consulting and design

Uniservices reviews the property, controlled openings, user requirements and existing infrastructure before defining the system scope. The design considers the practical relationship between readers, controllers, door hardware, credentials, software, power and communications.

For a separately scoped assessment, project requirements or system design, see our Consulting & Design service.

Installation and integration

New access control systems and system additions are installed around the approved design and site conditions. Work may include doors, gates, readers, controllers, credentials, supporting cabling and coordination with related building-security systems.

Integration is evaluated project by project. Compatibility with existing equipment is confirmed before it is included in the scope.

Modernization and phased upgrades

An aging system does not always require every component to be replaced at once. Uniservices can assess the existing equipment and infrastructure, identify what remains viable and develop a practical migration or phased-upgrade approach.

For projects centred on an existing or end-of-life system, see System Modernization.

Service and maintenance

Uniservices provides access control troubleshooting, repair and scheduled maintenance. Service may also be available for systems installed by another company, subject to an initial assessment of the system’s condition, compatibility, programming access and parts or software availability.

Recurring maintenance agreements can be scoped around the property and installed system. Agreement terms, included work and scheduling are defined for each client; no emergency or guaranteed response-time commitment is implied.

Commercial and building-level applications

Uniservices works on commercial and building-level access control projects for businesses, industrial properties, condominium corporations, apartment-building owners and property managers.

Typical applications may include:

  • commercial entrance and staff doors;
  • warehouse and industrial access points;
  • condominium and apartment-building common areas;
  • parkade and vehicle-gate access;
  • controlled internal rooms and restricted areas;
  • additions to an existing access control system.

Uniservices does not provide access control systems for individual homes.

Existing systems and contractor takeovers

Uniservices can assess an access control system installed by another contractor. The first step is to determine its condition, available documentation, programming access, compatibility and the availability of required parts or software.

After the assessment, Uniservices can explain:

  • which existing components may remain in service;
  • which items require repair or replacement;
  • whether the system can be expanded;
  • whether a phased upgrade is practical;
  • what information or access is required before work can proceed.

Assessment does not guarantee that every existing product can be supported. The recommended next step depends on the system found on site.

Access control often works alongside other building-security systems. Where the equipment and project scope support it, Uniservices can coordinate access control with:

Each system remains separately scoped. Integration is included only after compatibility and project requirements are confirmed.

Our project approach

  1. Understand the property

    We review the property, controlled openings, users, operating requirements and project goals.

  2. Assess existing conditions

    For existing buildings, we examine the installed equipment and supporting infrastructure that may affect the project.

  3. Define the scope

    We identify the proposed system, controlled openings, required work, known limitations and an appropriate implementation or upgrade path.

  4. Install, configure and verify

    Approved work is installed and configured, and the included openings and system functions are checked against the project scope.

  5. Support the installed system

    After completion, Uniservices can provide on-request service or a separately scoped recurring maintenance agreement.

Frequently asked questions

Do you install access control systems for homes?

No. Uniservices focuses on commercial and building-level systems for businesses, industrial properties, condominium corporations, apartment-building owners and property managers. We do not provide access control systems for individual homes.

Can you service a system installed by another company?

Yes, subject to an initial assessment. Service depends on the system’s condition, compatibility, programming access and the availability of required parts or software.

Can existing wiring, door hardware or controllers be reused?

Sometimes. Existing infrastructure is assessed before reuse is recommended. Components are retained only when their condition, compatibility and role in the proposed system make reuse practical.

Do you provide key fob access systems?

Yes. Cards and key fobs can be included where they suit the selected access control system and the property’s operating requirements.

Can access control work with an intercom or video surveillance system?

It may be possible when the systems are compatible and the integration has a clear operational purpose. Compatibility and scope are confirmed before integration is proposed.

Do you offer ongoing maintenance agreements?

Yes. Uniservices can provide recurring maintenance agreements as well as on-request service. The agreement scope and scheduling are defined for the property and installed system.

Discuss Your Access Control Project

Tell us about the property, the doors or gates involved, the current system if there is one, and what you need to accomplish. Uniservices will review the information and identify the appropriate next step.

Do not include alarm codes, access credentials or other sensitive security information.
