Commercial Security Consulting & Design in Edmonton

A security project works better when the requirements are clear before equipment is selected or installation begins. Uniservices helps businesses, industrial facilities, condominium corporations, apartment-building owners and property managers assess needs, define scope and plan commercial security systems in Edmonton and across Alberta. Consulting can be scoped as a separate service or as part of a later installation project.

Start with the property and the decision to be made

The useful starting point is the property’s operation, the existing system and the decision the client needs to make. A new installation, an expansion and a contractor takeover may require different information and different deliverables.

Depending on the agreed scope, the review may consider:

  • the areas, entrances and activities the system is intended to support;
  • current equipment, documentation and known limitations;
  • the people who operate or administer the system;
  • relevant power, cabling, network and connectivity conditions;
  • access to equipment, software and administrative settings;
  • budget, phasing and operational constraints;
  • the assumptions needed to define and price a practical solution.

The review identifies requirements and practical options. It does not guarantee that existing equipment can be reused or that every site condition will be visible before further investigation.

Consulting services

Needs assessment and scope development

Uniservices works with the client to describe the problem, the intended outcome and the systems involved. The agreed work may include an existing-system review, a site visit and a written scope for the next decision. The extent of investigation and documentation is set before the engagement begins.

System planning and design

Uniservices can develop a proposed system approach around the property and its operating requirements. Depending on the project, the scope may cover access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, intercom systems and the supporting infrastructure relevant to those systems.

Equipment selection, device locations, interfaces and any use of existing infrastructure depend on the approved project scope and verified site conditions. Professional-engineering sign-off or stamped drawings are not included in this consulting service.

Specifications and project documentation

When useful for a defined project, the consulting work can produce written requirements, an equipment or function schedule, a project scope or other documentation agreed in advance. The deliverables and level of detail are defined for each engagement; there is no universal specification package.

Phased project planning

When a property cannot replace every part of an installed system at once, Uniservices can help define practical stages for the proposed work. The plan considers the existing equipment, dependencies and operating constraints identified in the agreed assessment. Installation, further investigation and equipment purchases are scoped and quoted separately.

Systems and project types

Access control

Planning may address controlled openings, credentials, user administration, controllers, power and the interfaces required for the agreed access-control scope. For installation and system-specific service, see Access Control.

Video surveillance

Planning may address intended coverage, camera locations, recording, viewing needs, power and supporting connections. Camera placement and image results depend on the site and selected equipment. For installation and service, see Video Surveillance.

Intrusion detection

Planning may address defined detection areas, control equipment, keypads, notification devices, operating requirements and supporting infrastructure. The separate Intrusion Detection page describes installation, service and third-party 24/7 alarm monitoring.

Intercom systems

Planning may address entrances, visitor communication, answering arrangements, compatible door-release functions and supporting infrastructure. For installation and system-specific service, see Intercom Systems.

Existing systems and modernization

An existing system may contain usable components alongside equipment that is aging, unsupported or poorly suited to current needs. Uniservices can assess the available information and discuss repair, replacement or phased options. For broader migration projects, see System Modernization.

A defined engagement, with defined deliverables

Consulting is scoped around the client’s decision and the information available. Before substantive work begins, Uniservices and the client agree on the systems and locations included, the proposed tasks, the deliverables and the fee. Site visits, document revisions and meetings are included only as stated in that scope.

The engagement may stand on its own. A later installation, repair or modernization project is quoted separately.

Some projects require additional investigation or work by other qualified parties. A consulting deliverable does not itself certify code compliance, assure an authority’s approval or guarantee that a system will prevent an incident.

Commercial and building-level projects

Uniservices works with businesses, industrial facilities, condominium corporations, apartment-building owners and property managers. For condominium and apartment properties, the engagement addresses building or property-management requirements and the equipment defined in the scope.

Individual-home security systems and consumer residential design are outside this service.

Our consulting approach

  1. Describe the decision

    Tell us about the property, the system involved and what you need to decide. Do not send passwords, alarm codes, access credentials or detailed security information through the contact form.

  2. Agree on scope and fee

    We define the proposed tasks, information required, deliverables, timing and fee before substantive consulting work begins.

  3. Review the available information

    The agreed assessment may include documents, discussions, a site visit and a review of installed conditions relevant to the project.

  4. Develop the agreed deliverables

    We prepare the scope and design information included in the engagement and identify material assumptions or unresolved items.

  5. Decide on the next project step

    The client can use the deliverables to consider an installation, further investigation, a phased upgrade or another agreed action. Any later implementation is scoped and quoted separately.

Frequently asked questions

Can I hire Uniservices for consulting without hiring you to install the system?

Yes. Consulting can be a separately scoped engagement. The tasks, deliverables and fee are agreed in advance, and any later installation is quoted separately.

Can you help define a project before installation is quoted?

Yes. We can agree on a separate assessment or design scope to clarify requirements and identify practical options. The detailed work and its fee are agreed before it begins. Any later installation proposal is quoted separately.

What will I receive at the end of the engagement?

That depends on the agreed scope. Deliverables may include a written assessment, project requirements, a system concept, functional specifications or a phased project plan. The exact documents and level of detail are agreed before work begins.

Do you provide stamped engineering drawings or certify code compliance?

No. Professional-engineering sign-off and stamped drawings are not included. The consulting deliverables do not certify code compliance or guarantee approval by an authority. If a project requires those services, they must be scoped separately with appropriately qualified parties.

Can you guarantee that the planned system will prevent incidents or meet every future need?

No. Design decisions are based on the agreed requirements and available site information. Equipment, operation and site conditions can change, and no security system can prevent every incident.

Can Uniservices install the system after completing the design work?

Yes, when the proposed installation is within our services and we agree on a separate scope and quotation. The client can also use the consulting deliverables to consider its other options.

Do you design systems for individual homes?

No. Uniservices focuses on commercial and building-level security projects for businesses, industrial properties, condominium corporations, apartment-building owners and property managers.

Discuss Your Security Project

Tell us about the property, the systems involved and the decision you need to make. We can discuss a defined consulting scope and the appropriate next step.

Do not include passwords, alarm codes, access credentials or other sensitive security information in the form.
